On Sunday, September 28, 2014, a historic event finally happened in the world of television animation.

Two of the biggest and most popular cartoon franchises of all time met face to face in a Family Guy-Simpsons crossover episode titled “The Simpsons Guy.” Family Guy received its highest ratings in over four years due to help of Springfield’s finest.

WARNING: SPOILER ALERT! Here are 5 reasons why you should stop what you’re doing and take part in pop culture history:

1. Peter meets Homer

This is a moment that Family Guy and Simpsons fans have been talking about for years and now you finally get to see them meet in front of your eyes.

Homer gives Peter a tour of Springfield as they casually exchange each others’ signature gags. The episode introduces Peter to some of Springfield’s most memorable characters and debates over which is the better beer: Duff or Pawtucket Patriot Ale?

2. Stewie takes care of Bart’s bullies

Stewie instantly has a man crush on Bart as soon as they meet. He’s older, rides a skateboard and has awesome catchphrases that became a part of pop culture.

As Bart shows Stewie the ropes of how to be a cool kid in Springfield, he notices that Bart also has many enemies. Stewie then takes it upon himself to execute his own brand of “justice” to all of Bart’s enemies. The result is both chilling and hilarious…

3. Lisa helps Meg discover a hidden talent

Fans of Family Guy know all too well the running gag that is the never-ending disappointment of Meg. The show always goes out of its way to showcase that Meg is a loser who will never amount to anything.

When Meg meets the inspiring and up-lifting Lisa Simpson, she takes it upon herself to help Meg discover any hidden talents she might possess that will make her feel special.

4. Peter and Homer’s carwash scene

The whole reason behind Peter and his family being in Springfield in the first place was because Peter had his car stolen and they became lost.

Homer and Peter then come up with a brilliant idea to hold a car wash, specifically for people with stolen cars. The result? Well, let’s just say they perform an act that would put any Carl’s Jr ad to shame.

5. Peter vs Homer: The most epic “Chicken” fight you will ever see

One of my personal favourite running gags in Family Guy has always been the crazy and insanely fun “chicken man” fights. These began in the first few seasons of the show and have carried on since then. In these fights, out of nowhere, Peter will start a fight with a giant chicken in these incredibly epic, choreographed fight scenes.

Blood is everywhere, whole buildings and cars explode. Take any fight from Man of Steel, insert Peter Griffin and Homer Simpson and you’ll understand.

Not only does it answer the questions who would win in a fight, but it also has some of the funniest fight choreography yet in Family Guy coupled with a galore of Simpsons references!
