Canadian Coast Guard icebreakers reach North Pole, break into game of hockey

Canadian Coast Guard Hockey Game

Us Canadians love hockey so much, we’d travel to the ends of the Earth to hit the perfect sheet of ice.

While that may not have been the primary objective for the crews of the CCGS Louis S. St-Laurent and the CCGS Terry Fox, it didn’t hold them back from getting a game in during their recent trip to the North Pole.

Last week, the ships were there to gather scientific data supporting Canada’s territorial claim on the Arctic sea floor near the North Pole but they took the time to not only pass the puck around, but also join the growing number of people who have taken on the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge.

Santa himself even made an appearance, though he wouldn’t share whether a slashing penalty would land you on his “Naughty List”.
