#BendGate: the iPhone 6 Plus could easily bend in your pants pocket (PHOTOS, VIDEOS)

Owners of Apple’s newest gadgets, beware. It might be a good idea to buy a hard rigid protective case for your new iPhone 6 Plus smartphone.

There are reports and heavy social media chatter that the new device can be permanently bent with ease in owner’s pockets or even in situations where a small amount of pressure is applied.

Photos and testimonials first began to surface on Mac Rumours when one forum user said his 5.5 inch iPhone 6 Plus bent in his pocket after a day of sitting and dancing during a wedding.

The smartphone’s design could be prone to bending given that the case uses aluminum, which is known as an easily bendable metal. This is the second time Apple has used aluminum for the iPhone’s exterior structure, coupled by its engineering as the thinnest and largest iPhone yet.

To date, there have been no reports of malfunctioning hardware or cracked glass after it has been warped out of shape.

The cost of the new iPhone 6 Plus in Canada without a contract (unlocked) begins at $859. As of Monday, just three days after the device appeared in Apple Stores, 10 million units of the iPhone 6 devices have already been sold. However, due to a backlog in orders, shipment for most online orders will not begin until October.

At this time, there has been no statement from Apple over the issue of their bending phones.
