Authorities in Surrey have announced the arrest of a suspect in the recent kidnapping and sexual assault of a 9-year-old girl.

At a press conference Tuesday afternoon, Surrey RCMP Supt. Trent Rolfe revealed that 23-year-old Donovan Adams has been charged with kidnapping, sexual assault, and sexual interference in conjunction with the August 27 crime.

Adams is accused of luring the young girl out of the window of her family’s home in the 9900 block of 128 Street. He allegedly took the girl to the park, where she was sexually assaulted. The victim was then taken to a nearby yard of a neighbourhood home and instructed to wait there. The girl then fled home, and reported the incident to her mother, who contacted authorities.

The suspect reportedly did not know the victim prior to her abduction.

The RCMP said today that home security videos from neighbouring homes helped them make an arrest.
