Vancouver mixologist could be crowned world's best bartender

Mixologist Grant Sceney calls Vancouver home, and he is currently in contention for the title of Bartender of the Year at a prestigious global competition.

The World Class Bartender of the Year is a high-profile annual gathering and competition that focuses on innovation and skill in the mixology industry. Elite bartenders are put through the paces in initial heats, then move ahead to represent their country in a final showdown.

This year the action is taking place in posh locations in London, England, and the last qualifying drinks have been poured by the final six contenders:

Sceney, who is the head bartender at Vancouver’s Fairmont Pacific Rim, has found himself backed by a growing mass of colleagues around the globe through a social media campaign to support his win. Over 100 Canadian bartenders “have joined with Sceney Supporters from as far afield as Australia and Sweden to switch their profile photos on social media to Grant’s to show their support,” says Eater Vancouver.

With the qualifying cocktails already quaffed, Sceney and his supporters are now awaiting the judges’ verdict, which is slated to be revealed later today.
