The PNE is back for another year, bringing with it a colossal amount of food and fun. Indeed, attendees to this year’s PNE can truly stuff themselves silly on a wide range of irresistible fair food offerings, from crispy wood fire pizza to deliciously marinated jumbo chicken wings.

With so many tempting fair foods on offer, Vancity Buzz has prepared a handy list of the PNE’s must try dishes. We hope you’re hungry!

Fish Taco ($6)

The Roaming Dragon’s Fish Taco is a definite PNE food highlight. Strips of perfectly crusted and fried cod on a soft corn tortilla, topped with cabbage slaw, Asian salsa, sweet chili mayo and fresh cilantro. It is light, fresh tasting and truly delicious!

Garden Pizza ($9)

If you’re after something tasty but would rather it not be deep-fried or covered in batter, be sure to check out the Urban Wood Fire Pizza food truck, where you can pick up an individual garden pizza, topped with an array of fresh vege, mozzarella, feta and basil pesto for $9.

Berry Good Froyo ($8)

For something sweet, you cannot go past the wonderfully creamy frozen yogurt at the Sweet Ride Froyo mobile van. While there are a variety of toppings to choose from, our pick is the ‘Berry Good’, which consists of a delicious and winning combination of the truck’s signature tart froyo, a Liège waffle chuck, local berries, a splash of condensed milk and a sprinkling of toffee squares. Yummo!

Jumbo Chicken Wings ($12)

Chicken wings. Crunchy on the outside and moist and tender on the inside. What more could you possibly want? Cooked and served right then and there, Wings Outdoor Grill offers its patrons a range of exciting sauces, seasonings, dry rubs and glazes for their wings. Toppings include the fantastically sweet honey garlic, the rich maple bourbon, the sensational smoky BBQ and a whole lot more.

Classic Poutine ($8)

Dedicated solely to the Canadian classic dish of Poutine, the La Poutinerie food truck offers a range of tasty and unique custom made Poutine meals, from the traditional gravy and cheese curd to creative combinations, featuring marinated chicken, tenderloin steak, ham and eggs, and sliced hot hog just to name a few. However, you really can’t go past a serving of the classic poutine – a heaping portion of French fries, smothered in a rich homemade gravy topped with a handful of fresh cheese curds. Superb!

Pineapple Smoothie ($12)

Walking around the fair grounds is thirsty work, so make sure you swing by the Canada Concessions stand for a delightfully fresh and fruity pineapple smoothie. For $12 you can get your smoothie (a blend of pineapple chucks and ice) served in an actual pineapple, complete with a cocktail umbrella. If you’re not too fussed about the pineapple shell, you can ask for your smoothie to be poured into a regular cup for $9. Regardless of cup choice though, this smoothie is an undeniably healthy and delicious PNE drink option.
