The 230,000 square foot Pacific Centre location is currently under construction. It replaces part of the mall’s former eight-level Sears store. Nordstrom will occupy the ground level as well as levels two and three of the former Sears. The 44,000 square foot lower level will be occupied by between 10 and 15 retailers, and that section of the mall is scheduled to open next spring. The upper four levels, each of which is 70,000 square feet, will be occupied by offices.
Vancouver’s Nordstrom will be the third Nordstrom location to open in Canada, following its Calgary store which opens next month, and an Ottawa store which opens next spring. Nordstrom has also announced three Toronto stores, opening in 2016-2017.
Sources tell us that Nordstrom’s Vancouver store will feature a variety of pricepoints, from the affordable to its top-priced womenswear, footwear, accessories and menswear departments. Its womenswear department, Collectors, features designer closing priced into the thousands by designers such as Oscar de la Renta, Valentino, Dolce & Gabbana, Burberry, Versace, Lanvin, Armani Collezioni, and others. Its top-priced women’s footwear department,Salon Shoes, features designers such as Prada, Jimmy Choo, Manolo Blahnik, Miu Miu, Valentino and Gucci. Designer handbags include the likes of Valentino and Versace, some costing in excess of $2,000 each. Nordstrom’s designer men’s departments showcase designers such as Canali, Moncler, Armani Collezioni, and others.
Nordstrom’s Vancouver store will look somewhat different than most of its American locations. The company will adopt a more contemporary, black-and-white look for its store’s interior, with windows providing natural light, while most American Nordstrom stores feature a conservative cream-colour aesthetic, void of sunlight from exterior windows (save for internal skylights and atriums). New and recently renovated Nordstrom stores provide insight into the look of its Canadian stores, including a recently overhauled Los Angeles location.
Nordstrom hosts charity galas for new store openings, often two days before opening to the public. Vancouver’s charity gala may therefore possibly be on Wednesday, September 16, 2015. We’ll update you when we learn more.
Included in the new Vancouver store will be a third floor restaurant, as well as the company’s coffee bar, called eBar.
