Burnaby RCMP is seeking help from the public to identify a male who allegedly assaulted a female victim in the middle of the morning at a busy Burnaby intersection.

On Friday at 10:30 a.m., the woman was walking eastbound on the south side of Kingsway and was stopped at a light at McKay Avenue when a man stood beside her and allegedly stabbed her leg with  a needle.

The victim reported the incident an hour later at a local police station and was treated at hospital and later released.

While the nature of this incident is a significant concern for police, it is also highly unusual. As of today, we’ve had no other reported incidents, said investigative services officer Inspector Bob Page. The suspect’s description stands out and we remain hopeful that someone will identify him. That’s why we are urging the public to share the suspect’s description with your families and friends.

The suspect is described as:

  • dark-skinned male with dyed blonde short hair.
  • approximately 35-years-old
  • 5’7 (169 cm)

He was described as wearing:

  • light blue tank top
  • dark jeans
  • carrying three shopping bags.
