Coney Island Beach Free Outdoor Movie

A documentary on Steve Nash that even features an appearance by U.S. President Barack Obama is set to premiere on the evening of Saturday, August 9 at Kitsilano Beach.

The event is a free outdoor screening of the 78-minute long film directed by Vancouverites Michael Hamilton and Corey Ogilivie. The film, which was financed with the help of crowdfunding, takes a look at Nash’s personal life, career, philanthropy and legacy on the sport of basketball.

The Victoria resident has been deemed by TIME Magazine as the 100th most influential person, having defeated all odds and prejudices – “a short, white Canadian kid” – on his way to the top of the NBA.

Nash has played on three NBA teams and his 2014/2015 season with the Los Angeles Lakers will be his last – he is set to retire from the professional sport next year. He is a two-time NBA MVP, received both the Order of Canada and Order of British Columbia, and is a co-owner of the MLS Vancouver Whitecaps.

Saturday’s event is rumoured to include a special appearance by Nash himself.
