Is Canada's Best Restroom at Vancouver International Airport?

Vancouver airport shows style also in the restrooms.

There are a lot of reasons to boast about Vancouver, but we may soon be able to add “Best Restroom in Canada” to our bragging rights.

The honour is courtesy the annual Cintas Canada’s Best Restroom contest, which pits five nominated locations against each other in a public vote to determine which washroom really flushes the competition.

This year the restroom in the C-Pier of the Domestic Terminal of the Vancouver International Airport (YVR) is a finalist, vying for the glory against other loos across the nation like the one at the Calgary Zoo (err, the one the humans use), Toronto’s Patria restaurant, Planet Hollywood in Niagara Falls, and Shaw Club Hotel & Spa in Niagara-on-the-Lake.

Here’s the lowdown on the YVR facilities:

The washroom walls are covered in shades of blue, red, and yellow mosaic tiles and wave-shaped blue flooring winds down the curved corridor leading guests to their choice of bathroom stalls. White tile surrounds the hands-free sinks and towel dispensers, creating a cohesive and modern atmosphere that is sure to leave a lasting impression.

If you are, indeed, impressed with your toileting experience at YVR, or just a supporter of anything awesome in Vancouver, it’s up to you to see to it the YVR restroom wipes away those others to take the top title. Vancouver’s Cactus Club won the contest in its inaugural year in 2010, so it’s about time we reclaimed our washroom fame.

Voting is open through the end of September, and the winner will be revealed soon after.
