Swap your trunks for a tux and your bikini for a ballgown to join in on the fun of the upcoming Black Tie Beach Day.

Things are going to look a little fancier than usual at English Bay on the afternoon of Sunday, August 17. That’s because Improv Everywhere is organizing a Black Tie Beach Day, and everyone is invited.

The only stipulations are that you dress up, and show up to participate (not be a looky-loo). Here’s the official event info:

We are going to spend a day at the beach wearing black tie attire. Everything else about our day at the beach will be normal. Please bring what you would normally bring to the beach (towel, beach bag, sandcastle building tools, Frisbee, kite, etc.) The only unusual thing is that we will be doing all of this in black tie, while acting like it is perfectly normal dress for the beach. Plan on swimming in the ocean in your attire (you should try to find cheap/used clothes.)

There are some key specifics: Guys, make sure you’re in a black or white tuxedo (no other colours), and ladies, long evening gowns but no wedding dresses.

Black Tied Beach Day first started in 2010 in New York City. Check out video of their 2013 event for inspiration:
