We’re half way through summer and the busiest long weekend in Vancouver, BC Day Long Weekend, is upon us. Nearly a million people will go through downtown Vancouver as the city prepares for the Pride Parade, fireworks, food festivals and much, much more.

Evolution of Gaming

Evolution of Gaming is an interactive, retrospective event that celebrates the history of video games. It will showcase how games have shaped our culture, defined a generation, and set the foundation for games of today and tomorrow.

Evolution of Gaming’s admission is free, but space is limited. There are three time slots available per day (with 100 spots per time slot available): 9 a.m. – 12 p.m., 1 p.m. – 4 p.m. and 5 p.m. – 8 p.m. Registration is now open at: http://www.evolutionofgaming.ca

Vancouver Street Dance Festival

The third annual Vancouver Street Dance Festival is going to bring even more fun to your favourite August long weekend! Featuring dance battles, dance workshops, live DJ’s and bands.

  • Time: 11 am to 8 pm
  • Location: Robson Square

Celebration of Light Fireworks

Fireworks, bleacher seats, food, music and other performances and activities will also be back to add to the city’s largest and most anticipated summer festival.

  • Saturday, August 2:  JAPAN by Akariya Fireworks, 10 p.m. to 10:25 p.m.

Vancouver Pride Parade

Attracting crowds of more than 650,000, the annual Pride Parade is the city’s largest parade and is renowned on the international stage as on of the largest and most successful events in the world, in support of LGBTQ communities.

  • Time: Noon to 3 p.m.

Powell Street Festival

The Powell Street Festival is an annual celebration of Japanese Canadian arts, culture and heritage.

  • Date: August 1-3
  • Time: Friday 8 p.m. at Electric Owl (kick off party)
  • Location: This year’s Festival has shifted to nearby Alexander Street (between Princess and Dunlevy) and Jackson Avenue (between Railway and Cordova), ensuring that we remain in Vancouver’s historic Japanese Canadian neighbourhood.

Summerfest 2014 at Londsdale Quay Market 

Lonsdale Quay Market is proud to present our annual summer festival! SummerFest 2014 is the Market’s 10 week-long festival featuring live music, dancing, fitness, fun, and more!

Free Salsa Dancing at Robson Square

Sunday Afternoon Salsa at Robson Square is an annual series of free, outdoor salsa dances held at Robson Square during the summer months of July and August. The 2014 Sunday Afternoon Salsa season runs for nine Sundays.

  • Try the free lessons at 3 p.m., watch the performances at 5 p.m., or just check out the social dancing throughout the afternoon and see how much fun it is!

Robson Streat Food Vendors Market

STREAT is the newest initiative by Hawkers Market focusing on invigorating street food culture on streets of Vancouver. STREAT Markets are designed to fit into public spaces such as Robson Square and expand on the concept of street food culture in Vancouver including food vendors that go beyond food trucks or may be early stage food startups looking for a chance to serve up food to the hungry YVR crowds.

Davie Street Block Party for Vancouver Pride Week

Play games or dance with Pride to the hottest DJs of the summer! This is now an all ages community focused event for Vancouver’s LGBTQ community, families, and allies. Come at 4 pm to participate in carnival games in 2 community blocks (Thurlow-Jervis), listen to music, and participate in games by donation hosted by community groups and local non-profits. Held in partnership with the West End BIA.

The beer garden is 19+ and opens up at 6 pm, be sure to bring your ID, the beer garden is ticketed be sure to purchase your tickets in advance from the Vancouver Pride Society Website.
