Last night, RCMP responded to a call in Surrey that a 9-year-old girl had been abducted from her bedroom in the family home where she was sleeping then sexually assaulted and left alone in a nearby yard. The suspect is still at large.

Police promptly arrived to the home at the 9900 block of 128 Street after receiving the report from the mother at 10:40 p.m. Investigators learned that the young daughter was lured out of her open bedroom window by an unknown male.

He then took the girl to a nearby park where it is alleged that she was sexually assaulted and then taken to a nearby yard of a neighbourhood home. The suspect told her to remain there while he left.

Soon after the man disappeared, the girl fled to her own home and sought help from her mother. She was taken to hospital and is now being cared for by medical professionals.

The RCMP’s Special Victims Unit is conducting the investigation with assistance from the Lower Mainland District Forensic Identification Section and additional investigative units. Police will return to the scene tomorrow knocking on doors, looking to identify anyone that may have seen something out of the ordinary overnight.

Investigators do not believe the incident is linked to two other reported sexual assaults in South Surrey and White Rock that occurred earlier this month. However, police are not able to confirm that there are no links as the investigation is still in its early stages.

As a precaution, RCMP have asked Surrey residents to ensure all of their windows, especially those on the ground floor, and property entry doors are secured.

Anyone with information about this incident is asked to call the Surrey RCMP Serious Crime Unit at 604-599-0502. If you wish to remain anonymous please call Crimestoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
