Supermoon full moon Vancouver

On early Saturday morning, the first of three supermoons this summer appeared over Metro Vancouver’s clear, night skies.

The moon is currently at its ‘Perigee’ stage, a short period every 13 months when it is nearest to Earth during its elliptical orbit around the planet. This meant the moon was 14 per cent larger and 30 per cent brighter than the usual full moons.

Some Vancouverites braved the early morning hours to take photos of the moon in full at 4:25 a.m., less than one hour before sunrise and a approximately 90 minutes before moonset.

The next supermoon is scheduled for August 10, and the third on September 8.
