Australian singer-songwriter, Pete Murray, taught himself how to play guitar after he was badly injured while on his path to becoming a Rugby football star. Now, he plays alongside renowned Canadian artists including JUNO Award winners Ron Sexsmith and Paul Langlois of the Tragically Hip, Matthew Good, Chantal Kreviazuk and Serena Ryder.

His smooth vocals and the way he weaves his lyrics, create a perfect fusion between rugged and heartfelt, much like drinking Dark Havana club mixed with sparkling apple juice.

Before music, Murray admits that his life was all about sports, but at the age of 22, one of his best friends said that he was going to take guitar lesson.

“I had never thought of learning any musical instrument but I thought that also sounded pretty cool, so I got a lesson,” said Murray. “Sadly, he never did. He passed away a few years later from an aneurysm, so he never got to see my success, but he is the reason that I’m here today. I named my first born son Charlie after him.”

Murray recently performed in Vancouver as part of his tour across Canada, which he is accomplishing as a three piece with two guitars, bass and beats. He says the last two times he has toured here has been solo, so this time the band with beats has given him the ability to be more dynamics at the shows.

“I like to just have about 30 minutes to myself before I go on stage so I can get into the moment. I like to think about what I can do different for each show so each audience has a different experience. I’m really loving the Canadian audiences, everyone seems very friendly and positive and they love having a good time, just like Aussies.”
