Virginia state resident Charmaine Mitchell is in hospital suffering from serious injuries after a crash with cyclists on Saturday.
According to Global BC, Mitchell and her local friend were walking the Stanley Park seawall near Second Beach when several speeding cyclists turned the corner. One of the cyclists traveled out of the cycling lane, onto the pedestrian path, and crashed right into her.
Mitchell was knocked off the seawall and landed 10 feet onto the rocks that line the wall. She suffers three fractured vertebrae, a broken knee and a broken toe. Since the accident, she had surgery to install a pair of steel rods and eight screws into her broken back.
It is not known whether Vancouver Police will place charges on the cyclist, but this comes a day after volunteers with the police force were seen pointing radar guns on cyclists riding the seawall.
The Vancouver Police told Vancity Buzz that its volunteers were educating people on the 15 km/hr seawall speed limit.
