Vancouver has once again proved that it is a city that makes the best out of a bad situation.

After being shot and losing mass amounts of blood in the Yaletown shooting on June 10, 52-year-old Paul Dragan is still hospitalized but is now improving his condition.

Hundreds of Vancouverites rallied together at the Roundhouse Turntable Plaza on Wednesday for a fundraising barbecue, which had places like Urban Fare, Starbucks and Honjin Sushi supplying food and drinks.

Coast Capital Savings presented the Canadian Blood Services with a $2,800 cheque in Dragan’s name, on top of the donations residents made during the day. Canadian Blood Services also had dozens of people book appointments to give blood.

Along with family-friendly activities like face painting and drawing, local musicians Simon Patrick Russell and Lucas Hamilton performed their music during the event.

A giant “get well soon” card was placed on a table which residents signed throughout the day, eventually making it so full that smaller cards were offered for people to sign.

To book an appointment for blood donation, visit the Canadian Blood Services website.
