Forget selfies taken at arms-length or those self-shots marred by the reflection of flash in a mirror, the 3D selfie takes things to a whole new level by allowing people to scan their bodies and create mini figurines of themselves — from the comfort of their own living room.

Developed by Artec Group, a 3D scanning company, Shapify.me offers a printing and delivery service to create miniature figurines based on scans of yourself.

Taking advantage of motion-detection technology, Kinect-owners can download the Shapify.me to their computer, pairing the device to their Kinect and scanning themselves striking a pose at home.

Taking turns to scan their body and spin 45 degrees until a full rotation has been completed, customers can then simply press the ‘3D Print’ button and a perfect one-twentieth model capturing themselves will be ordered and delivered within days. The figurines themselves will cost $79.

The system is compatible with Microsoft Kinect for both Xbox 360 or Windows. The 3D selfie system also offers Shapify scanning points for those without access to a Kinect to print off their own 3D photos. Though the majority of dedicated scanning points are located in Europe, North American expansions are on the horizon with scanning points located in Montreal, Palo Alto and Jacksonville currently.
