#UBCGrad campaign backfires with cheeky student response

#UBCGRAD debt

A UBC graduation campaign has unintentionally gone viral after a photograph of a #UBCgrad sticker discussing student debt was posted to Reddit.

The campaign, which uses ground stickers with students filling in the blank on what they will remember UBC for, was meant to stimulate nostalgic memories of life as a UBC student over the years.

One student, however, used the stickers to lament the issue of high graduate debt. According to the Canadian Federation of Students, university graduates accumulate an average debt of approximately $27,000. Rising tuition has caused the Canada Student Loans Program to reach its $15-billion threshold well in advance, with 2 million Canadians attaining a total of $20-billion in student loans.
