The crane atop Pacific Centre’s Nordstrom building, formerly Sears and Eatons, is being disassembled today and marks a major milestone in the redevelopment project.

Over the past two years, the 578,000 square foot building has been one of downtown Vancouver’s largest construction projects. In addition to a new exterior facade, the interior of the building is being redesigned and will see new uses:

Basement Level

The basement level of the building was formerly the space of Sears’ men’s department. In spring 2015, this 44,000 square foot space will reopen as an extension of Pacific Centre – adding twelve new retailers to the shopping mall.

The first three levels total 230,000 square feet and will be occupied by Nordstrom’s Canada flagship store. It is scheduled for a fall 2015 opening.

Levels 4 to 7

The top four floors of the building will be tenanted by two of the world’s largest corporations and one of Canada’s largest law firms. It features AAA class office space with 75,000 square foot open office plates – the largest in Vancouver.

Sony Pictures Imageworks is relocating its worldwide headquarters and main studios from California to Vancouver, allocating enough space for as many as 700 artists at its Pacific Centre office space.

Microsoft is also establishing its largest Canadian presence in Vancouver through the opening of its Excellence Centre at Pacific Centre. About 600 of its staff, including 400 new employees, will further expand and develop on the company’s software and online applications from the top two floors of the building.

Miller Thompson LLP will occupy about 48,000 square feet of the building.

All three tenants will move into their spaces beginning in spring 2015. The new office lobby will be located on the north side of the development, facing TD Tower and the street entrance to the Canada Line’s Vancouver City Centre Station,
