Magnitude 3.0 earthquake reported in Strait of Georgia, just outside Victoria

A magnitude 3.0 earthquake at the Strait of Georgia, just outside the City of Victoria on Vancouver Island, was detected at 1:40 p.m. earlier this afternoon.

According to the U.S. Geological Survey, the earthquake’s epicentre was only 11 kilometres away from the province’s capital city and had a depth of 24 kilometres.

The tremor was initially reported as a magnitude 3.2 event, before being downsized to magnitude 2.4 and then finally upgraded to magnitude 3.0.

Victoria residents who felt the shaking took to Twitter.
