low calorie beer

With summer in the air, we are in for barbeques and parties! And wherever there is a social function, there is usually alcohol. A cold, refreshing beer can be a nice way to cap off a scorcher of a day. For those of us who are into fitness and the whole watching what we eat thing, this can often be a dilemma.

One of the most important aspects of a lifestyle of fitness is finding alternatives. Whether those alternatives be low calorie brownies or healthy hamburgers, finding a way to enjoy yourself is important when living the fit lifestyle. In the case of drinking alcohol, there are some low calorie options. Since beer is the drink of the season for many, this article will focus on the five best low calorie beers available in B.C. Liquor Stores.

Molson 67

Although Molson 67 doesn’t pack a huge punch with its alcohol content (3%), its modest calorie count is hard to look past. In B.C., this is a low as the calories get. Want a change of flavour? Try the Sublime version.

Sleeman Clear 2.0

Number two on the list is Sleeman’s contribution to the low calorie beer market. Sleeman Clear 2.0 has a 4% alcohol content, and has a meager 80 calories per 12 ounce serving. Although the calories count of this beer is higher than that of the Molson 67, you get a significant bump in alcohol content, while keeping the calories lower than the rest of the beers on this list.

Michelob Ultra

Michelob Ultra is the original low calorie beer — well it was the first beer that was marketed as a low carb, low calorie beer. Michelob catered to a niche market that no one else had really bothered catering to. Michelob Ultra has a 4.2% alcohol content level, and has only 95 calories per 12 ounce serving.

Corona Light

With only 99 calories per 12 ounce serving, Corona Light lives up to its name. Like the beers above, with its low calorie count, it still packs a punch of 4.1%. As long as you don’t pull out the tequila bottle to create a fiesta, your calorie count should stay pretty low.

Miller Chill

It’s Miller timeMiller Chill is Miller’s answer to Bud Light Lime in a market of light, lime flavoured beers that took off a few summers ago. This beer, with a 4.2% alcohol content level, packs only 100 calories per 12 ounces. However, they go down pretty easy, so be careful!

Honourable mention: Coors Light

Just barely missing the cut is the Silver BulletCoors Light! Coors Light clocks in at 102 calories per 12 ounce serving, with a 4.2% alcohol content level.
