The Vancouver Park Board announced today that more food cart options will be added to the city’s parks and beaches for the summer season.

Permits have been granted for 11 vendors at 15 sites, the largest number of food cart options ever since the introduction of the park-based program two years ago. All food carts will be up and running by mid-June.

The Park Board’s food cart program complements its food offerings at 14 concession stands, which offers selections such as berry popsicles, berry and yogurt parfaits, and veggies with dip.

Highlights

  • BerryMobile will be operating three fresh fruit stands adjacent to concessions at Second Beach, Lumberman’s Arch and Spanish Banks.
  • Vancouver Beach Nuts will be selling fresh coconuts from a Tiki bar at English Bay, in addition to their first Kitsilano Beach location.
  • Jim’s Ice Cream will be selling novelty ice cream at Vanier Park.
  • The newest Japadog food cart will be located next to the Information Booth in Stanley Park.

While the Vancouver Park Board has issued more permits for food carts at the city’s most popular parks and beaches, Vancouver City Council reached a decision earlier in the year to temporarily freeze the number of food cart licenses.

More food cart licenses will be added only after Council finds a way to prevent license holders from subleasing their spaces for rates as much as ten times more than what the city charges.
