FIFA World Cup 2014 Brazil kicks off June 12

The most watched sporting event in the world is back after a four year hiatus! Brazil will host the World Cup for the first time the since 1950 when they lost to Uruguay in the championship finals.

With five world championships on their resume, Brazil leads the pack followed by Italy with four, Germany with three, Argentina and Uruguay with two each, while England, France and Spain each have one.

Four years ago in South Africa, Spain’s national team knocked off the Netherlands 1-0 in extra time when Andres Iniesta scored in the 116th minute to win the title in South Africa.

Where to watch the games in Vancouver?

Here‘s are a list of spots where you can watch the World Cup on Commercial Drive. This year, Steveston Village in Richmond is also getting in on the act of celebrating and screening the World Cup.

Time Zone: With Brazil only 4 hours ahead of Vancouver it makes for good viewing times on the West coast, with kick off for games at 9 a.m., 12 p.m., 2 p.m., 3 p.m. and 6 p.m. (all times PST).

Opening Ceremony: It begins at 11 a.m. PST, just before the Opening Game

Opening Game: Brazil takes on Croatia on Thursday, June 12 (special 1 p.m. PST kickoff)

World Cup Final: Sunday July 13 at 12 p.m. PST
