A space in East Vancouver is offering up more than simply a retail store and an art gallery. Shop Wrong, located at 1192 Hastings, saw the need for a versatile community hub to pull together artists, creators, youth and those seeking a refuge from a pretentious gallery environment.

Choosing to create a multipurpose space for the people of the community has always been about encouraging art and culture as well as seeing a need for something and filling it. Devoting half of Shop Wrong to a retail, art gallery and performance venue and the other half to holding workshops and classes allows the space to remain versatile for those who use it.

Their storefront is packed with hand sewn art pieces, paintings, sculptures and creations of every medium possible. The eclectic flavor floods the space with locally produced music, hand-made stationary and screen printed clothing. Every surface is bright and colorful with many pieces speaking of the aboriginal heritage of the artists influence.

DSC_0218As part of the Made in Strathcona Tour series, Shop Wrong even went as far as to source the parts for their street marker from salvaged bits found in the area near the shop. A reclaimed pallet and a piece of discarded plywood.

They will be part of the tour on Saturday, May 31 from 1 to 3 p.m., which will showcase Strathcona’s manufacturing companies and the city’s hidden gems, including:

  • Boardroom ECO Apparel
  • Special Screencraft Printers
  • YEW Woodshop
  • The Vinegar Factory
  • Wiens Studios
  • Shop Wrong

Use the promo code BLOGGER50 and get a May 31 or June 7 tour ticket for just $5
