Vancouver patios come in all shapes, sizes and locations.

Here are few special ones that maybe didn’t jump out at you because… they are hidden gems, off the beaten path. So study up and enjoy some patio hopping this summer!

The Wicklow Pub

Located along the seawall in False Creek near Leg-in-Boot Square, it is actually one of the sunniest patios in Vancouver!  Their upstairs back patio is west-facing and you can soak up the sun or watch a perfect sunset with a cold one in hand. They have a great food menu serving up Pacific Northwest comfort food at reasonable prices. They also have drinks specials every single day of the week and 20+ beers on tap, so it is impossible not to have a good time.  Located in what some might remember as the old Stamps Landing Pub, it is the perfect neighbourhood spot and a much better version than before.

Instantly you feel like you’re on vacation in Los Angeles, New York or Miami on this hidden patio. How about the Hotel Georgia in Vancouver!  It’s hard to tell because you can’t see the traffic, mountains or ocean, but the change of scenery is welcome, making it the ideal urban oasis. With its own private elevator to the 4th floor, it can be tough for some to find on their first visit, so just ask the hotel staff to point you in the right direction. Reflections has a brilliant layout, which gets a good amount of sun, but it is also covered and waterproof in the right places. Cozy and tranquil with two fireplaces, oversized comfy couches and private cabanas available…it will become your new stay-cation.

Minami Restaurant

They have a great garden patio tucked away at the very back of their Yaletown location that you need to experience for yourself. Small, intimate, covered, heated and surrounded by a beautiful fresh garden. The sushi is nothing short of amazing, creative and packed with flavour that will make your mouth smile. The cocktail list is solid and so are the Japanese beers on tap. The staff is passionate and knowledgeable, to help guide you through the entire experience. On the weekends from 11 – 3 pm they have a brunch menu with 3 different Eggs Benny’s. The patio is there for late night bites, business lunches, small parties, brunch or a night out with your special someone. Definitely worth checking out!

Adesso Bistro

Before this list, your best chance of finding this unique patio was to stumble upon it on your way to or from Stanley Park. It is nicely tucked away in the middle of a residential neighbourhood on Haro Street, about a block and a half past Denman, next to the Buchan Hotel. It is constantly turning heads when people drive or walk by with a one of a kind park setting patio, with beautiful hanging flowers and a surrounding garden. They take a modern approach on traditional Italian food from the Ligurian region, which includes fresh fish and seafood. Reservations for the patio are required.

Sunday through Thursday they do ‘Neighbourhood Nights” where you can get a 3 course regional menu for $32 and $5 Martini’s all night.

The Kingston Tap House

Independently owned and operated, The Kingston has always been a great spot for any occasion, but did you know they have a wicked back and roof patio? They are aiming to re-open the lower patio in early June, construction permitting.  The bar and hotel are sandwiched between two large TELUS projects on Richards Street, one 53 story residential building and the other side is the TELUS Garden building, making it a busy block. The Kingston patio is set on two levels and is a great escape from it all with palm trees and fountains. The lower level is set in a courtyard style that can seat about 30 people, while the upper level, Lido patio, will take longer to open as it is going to undergo a full renovation to enclose it so it can stay open year round.

  • Best thing:  Great people, Local ingredients (Happy Hour 2 to 7 p.m., except on event nights)
  • Best Eats: Duck Confit Salad (a generous portion of fresh greens, tender house cured shredded duck, dried cherries and apricots with a lemon tarragon vinaigrette) also their Corned Beef Deli Sandwich (Lunch Only)
  • Best Drinks: Great list of local rotating craft beers with more than 15 taps your find your flavour (Gluten-free beer selections as well)
  • Kids: Yes (Dining Room and half the patio)
