The Postcard Show Vol. 4 takes place Saturday, April 5, from 7 to 11 p.m. at Gastown’s Remington Gallery (108 East Hastings).

It will feature a mix of original artwork from new and established artists, all showcased in the ubiquitous format of the postcard. The show’s theme is “Transformation” and artistic styles range from scratchboard work and textile art, to pastels and traditional oil painting.

The Postcard Show is a response to the lack of opportunities for emerging artists in Vancouver, particularly new graduates. It also creates an alternative for people to purchase original art for a relatively low price compared to other galleries.

After being displayed in the gallery, all the pieces are up for silent auction.  Artists cannot participate in the show if they are unwilling to sell their art. Silent auction winners will be contacted the following week.  Entry is by donation, and there’s also a cash bar and live music.

According to curator Paulina de la Paz: “Postcards are a really accessible way to share images with people, so why not use them to showcase original artwork? I gave participants basic guidelines about size and being able to hang on a wall, but that’s about it. With about 50 artists participating, I hope everyone finds something they want to take home. “

Created in 2013, the Postcard Show also has international ambitions. Next on Paulina’s list is Mexico City, and from there, who knows.
