Catalyzing Vancouver’s Potential
The Network Hub, Vancouver’s longest running co-working space and startup launch pad, is announcing the opening of the Digital Hub. What The Network Hub did to support startups, small businesses and budding entrepreneurs in the last 8 years will be extended to individual content creators and small creative firms.
“We have been working on creating the Digital Hub for quite some time and are very happy our efforts are now coming to fruition,” explains Jay Catalan, co-founder of The Network Hub. “Vancouver is home to many talented individuals in the digital industry, but many may not have all the resources necessary to pursue their passion in the profession. It is vital to support such a community, especially given that our city has the advantage of sitting between the creative and technology sector.”
The Digital Hub will be equipped with on-demand workspace, with the latest world-class tools and resources to meet the demands of today’s complex and data intensive digital projects. The vision is to empower the independent digital artist to create, manage and distribute content on a pay-per-use basis, allowing individuals and small digital firms to scale up or down efficiently and affordably. Designers, independent filmmakers and agencies will be able to produce content and distribute to their markets without the expensive need to build and maintain costly infrastructure.
Vancouver will be the first launch location for the Digital Hub, with other locations to follow. Given that over 30% of the city’s digital media companies operate from Vancouver’s Downtown and Gastown area, it is the ideal launch site for producing a collaborative confluence of science, art and technology. Vancouver is uniquely positioned geographically to leverage relationships with LA’s entertainment hub, technology centers in Seattle and San Francisco, and strong service demands in Asia.
With Vancouver widely perceived as Canada’s largest digital media hub, this initiative is another great step in the right direction to boost Vancouver’s leadership role in digital media innovation.
