Man gives shoes to homeless

“Soul-touching” photos of a man giving his shoes and socks to a homeless individual while traveling on a Surrey bus have gone viral around the world.

The man was traveling on a bus to Guildford when he noticed a fellow passenger was barefoot with only plastic hair nets covering his feet.

The selfless act of charity was photographed by off-duty bus driver Surjit Virk. “It made my heart melt,” Virk told 24 Hours. “He just took his shoes and socks off and said, ‘You can take these, don’t worry about me — I live close by and can walk.’ People usually don’t care or even look at other people on the bus, they didn’t even want to sit beside this guy because of how he was dressed.”

The man was wearing a Muslim dress and had just left a nearby mosque. He was identified as a 27-year-old Surrey resident by 24 Hours, but has insisted to not be identified because of his Islamic faith which maintains that charitable acts and good deeds should be kept anonymous.

Photographed incidents of good deeds often go viral. In 2012, New York Police Department officer Larry DePrimo was pictured giving a homeless person a pair of boots during a cold, winter evening. The 26-year-old officer received a promotion after he became an internet sensation.

Good karma pays off.
