In North Vancouver, police arrested two intoxicated adults in a vehicle and were alarmed to find a three-year-old child in the back seat.

On Thursday, April 24, 2014 at approximately 10:30 p.m., a North Vancouver RCMP Traffic Officer, while on patrol in the 100 block of West 3rd Street, noticed the passenger of a parked vehicle drinking alcohol. Further investigation revealed that both the 43-year-old passenger and the 39-year-old male driver, from Victoria, were highly intoxicated.

The driver who had care and control of the vehicle failed the road side ‘Alcohol Screening Device’ and was issued a 90 day driving prohibition. Police determined that neither of the adults were sober enough to be responsible for the care of the three year old. BC Ministries of Families were called out to take custody of the child.

Both adults were arrested for being drunk in a public place and lodged in police cells until sober, said Cpl. Richard De Jong of the North Vancouver RCMP. This is a very disturbing incident for all involved, especially the three year old who is the son of the passenger.
