A Langley man has been fined for driving his Ferrari F430 at excessive speeds of 181 km/h – more than 100 km/h over the 80 km/h Surrey road speed limit. To make matters worse, there was also a 10-year-old boy as a passenger.

“Despite the driver’s extremely excessive speed, the real surprise for officers was when they saw a young child in the vehicle with him,” said RCMP Cpl Robert McDonald. “I don’t know how someone could put a child at risk like that.”

He was clocked with a laser and waved down by police while traveling south on 176th Street at 32nd Avenue.

Apparently, he told police he was just testing the new car.

The 49-year-old man admitted to police that he was aware that this was the very area where a Newton family of five people, including two children, were killed a year ago this week. The family was traveling in a minivan when it went through a red light and collided with another car.

It was later determined that the minivan driver had been suffering from an undetected brain tumour.
