“It’s a natural location for expansion of our brand,” says Cindy Lee, CEO of T&T Supermarket. “Residents and workers in south Vancouver have long been underserved because of a lack of grocery stores. T&T Supermarket will not only benefit those that live, work and visit Marine Gateway, but it will benefit the entire region, as well as people who use the Canada Line.”

There are currently three T & T Supermarket locations within the City of Vancouver and both are located at Chinatown next to Stadium-Chinatown Station and at Renfew Street and East 1st Avenue.

“With development slated for the Cambie Corridor over the next 20 years, this is a prime place to do business,” says Andrew Grant of PCI. “Retailers in our development at Cambie and Marine will be the anchor for the south end of the corridor, serving both the existing and future population.”

T & T Supermarket was founded in 1993 in Metro Vancouver and its headquarters is located in Richmond. In 2009, the local Asian supermarket chain was purchased by Ontario-based food retailer giant Loblaw Companies for $225-million. Loblaw owns retailers such as Superstore and Shoppers Drug Mart. T & T Supermarket has 22 stores nation wide including 4 in Alberta and 9 in Ontario.

This announcement of T&T Supermarket as the second confirmed tenant at Marine Gateway follows on the heals of Cineplex announcing it will open a 1,940-seat theatre. The 11-screen theatre will offer a dynamic entertainment experience through new audio visual technology and VIP theatres, which include reserved seating, in-seat food service, and a lounge. It also serves to replace the recently closed Cineplex theatre at Oakridge Centre to make way for Vancouver’s first Crate & Barrel furniture and houseware store.

When completed and open in 2015, Marine Gateway and its T & T Supermarket and Cineplex theatres will be just two train stops away from Oakridge Centre which will also be undergoing a major redevelopment in the coming years. The development is adjacent to a major bus loop that serves as the terminus for the 3, 15, 17, 100 and N15 bus routes.

In addition to the growing hub at Marine Drive Station, major redevelopments are also anticipated for 57th Avenue at the Pearson Dogwood lands and 33th Avenue Station at the former BC RCMP Headquarters. Both redevelopments will likely include the addition of two new Canada Line stations within their immediate vicinities.

“With development slated for the Cambie Corridor over the next 20 years, this is a prime place to do business,” says Andrew Grant of PCI. “Retailers in our development at Cambie and Marine will be the anchor for the south end of the corridor, serving both the existing and future population.”

The 820,000 square feet Marine Gateway project comprises of 3 towers with the tallest having a height of 335-feet. In additional to retail, entertainment, and the supermarket, there will be a total of 460 residential suites (of which 50 or so will be affordable rental housing) and 240,000 square feet of office space.

Westport Innovations has signed on to lease more than 50 per cent of the office space for its new headquarters.
