Mobile spa lets you pamper your pet and help SPCA

Comments

A mobile spa that caters to time-crunched pet owners is hoping that combining crowdfunding, loyalty perks and laid-back philanthropy will be a winning formula to growing its Vancouver client base.

Aussie Pet Mobile is a mobile pet grooming franchise with locations across the world, but it’s still relatively unknown here in Canada. Each groomer works out of a sweet tricked-out Mercedes Benz van (that’s solar powered!) that comes right to your house. They use all-natural, green products to clean your pet. The company has teamed up with Vancouver-based crowdsourcing gurus FundRazr for a new promotion that allows clients to pre-buy its service and receive loyalty perks – and give to charity — in the process.

The idea of getting rewards for crowdfunding projects has been around for a while –especially for startups – but it’s unique and pretty groundbreaking for a pet company like this.

The idea is pretty simple, and a great deal for pet owners: new and existing clients who pre-buy services on the FundRazr page rewarded with perks like a premium grooming package or a gift card for a local pet store.

You also get the added bonus of being a lazy philanthropist: for each perk you buy, the company donates five per cent to the BC SPCA, which helps protect thousands of needy pets each year.

And the perks are pretty sweet: in addition to your 15-point grooming you can spend an extra $10 to get your cat a “lion cut” (yeah, it’s what it sounds like). For $12 you can get a de-shedding treatment for your dog. And a mere $7 gets you an oral treatment to remove tooth plaque.

Personally, I think the company is pretty great, and have an excellent busy model. Loads of young professionals in the city own dogs, but lead pretty busy lives, and are too busy to take their dogs to the groomer every month.

I tested the service out with my 16-pound Norfolk terrier, and it exceeded expectations.

The groomer, Rafael, was super professional and had a real dog whisperer quality to him. You can tell it’s not a job to him – he legitimately loves animals.

Plus, having a groomer rock up to your house means you don’t have to spend hours huffing them to a doggy salon – or having your dog cooped up in a cage while it’s waiting to see someone.

Biggest bonus: Wee man went from looking like a total ragamuffin to a real little handsome devil. Even if he found a giant pile of mud to ram his head into ten minutes later.
