On Friday, Vancouver e-retailer ShoeMe.ca partnered with Union Gospel Mission and dropped off 125 pairs of brand new shoes and socks to residents living in Vancouver’s Downtown Eastside.
“We are always looking for ways to give back locally and with Vancouver’s wet winters, we know there are a lot of people in need of new shoes,” said Sean Clark, CEO of ShoeMe.ca.
The shoes were given out on a first-come first-serve basis following the breakfast service. Most of the residents present were male so following the shoe-drop, the ShoeMe.ca team headed out into the streets to gift the remaining women’s shoes.
“A good pair of well-fitting shoes is a luxury on the street. Because feet are not one-size-fits all, most people are simply making due with ill-fitting and hole-ridden shoes. Above and beyond being painful, this can lead to medical issues like street feet. We feel so thankful for ShoeMe’s contribution to help,” said Jeffrey Baergen, Community Engagement Coordinator of Union Gospel Mission.
