The Vancouver Olympic Cauldron at Jack Poole Plaza will be relit today for the last time to celebrate Canada’s tremendous success at the Sochi 2014 Olympic Games, including today’s back-to-back gold medal win in men’s Olympic ice hockey.

The Cauldron will be lit upon conclusion of the men’s hockey game until the end of the Closing Ceremonies (until approximately 10:30 a.m.), which begin at 8 a.m. PST. It will then be relit from 4 to 8 p.m. and commence with the singing of O Canada. Meet at Jack Poole Plaza and join in on the celebration at 4 p.m.!

Revellers are encouraged to fly the flag and wear red in the streets of downtown throughout the day and to climax celebrations at the Cauldron.

The Canadian men pulled a solid victory by keeping the Swedes scoreless at 3-0 with Jonathan Toews, Sidney Crosby and Chris Kunitz scoring the game’s goals.

Tonight’s relighting of the Cauldron will be the fifth time the flame has been rekindled during the Sochi 2014 Olympics. It was first relit on February 12 to celebrate the four year anniversary of Vancouver 2010 and then relit again several times the following week to celebrate gold medal wins, including two days of double golds.

Canada concluded Sochi 2014 with its second best performance at the Winter Games. While the 10 golds at Sochi do not match the 14 golds captured at Vancouver, its 25 medals at 2014 is just one medal shy of a tie of the all-time Canadian record of 26 medals in 2010.

Host nation Russia ended Sochi 2014 by topping the medal chart with 13 gold medals, one short of the all-time Winter Games record made by Canada at Vancouver, and a total of 33 medals.
