I love what Hardline Productions does to stand apart in a crowded Vancouver theatre world. Come see their latest show, BUG, while helping raise awareness for violence against women.

New Show: BUG

I gave high marks to Hardline’s performance last year, with their emotional version of Steinbeck’s most famous novella. Now they’re back with a new show: Tracy Letts’ BUG, opening on Valentine’s Day at The Shop Theatre.

Directed by Sean Harris Oliver, BUG is an unconventional love story between Agnes (Genevieve Fleming, Private Lives, Death of a Salesman), a lonely cocktail waitress living day-to-day in a run down motel, and Peter (Jay Clift, Cool Beans, Zombie Syndrome), an AWOL soldier with conspiracy theories so crazy they might be true. Written by Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright Tracy Letts (August: Osage County) and featuring a stellar cast that includes Bob Frazer (Richard III, Macbeth), Melissa Oei (Boeing Boeing, She Stoops to Conquer), and Raphael Kepinski (It’s a Wonderful Life, Fall Away Home), Bug will have you buzzing from start to incredible finish.

Violence Against Women

Speaking on the film’s overall theme, Hardline has partnered with Battered Women’s Support Services (BWSS) for the run of BUG.

A BWSS donation box and information materials will be available at The Shop Theatre lobby before and after each performance. There will be two talkbacks on February 19th and February 26th with BWSS Executive Director Angela Marie MacDougall and the cast of Bug immediately following the performances to create a chance for audience members to learn more about the themes and issues central to the play.
