Today, I’m pleased to introduce a new video series I’ve been working on for Vancity Buzz called “Off The Menu” where we’ll be taking a look at some of Vancouver’s favorite restaurants and talking to the people behind the food. Then, we’ll have them cook us a dish that they don’t regularly offer on their menus, a dish that you’ll be able to order (for a limited time) if you ask for it!

Vancouver is full of amazing restaurants helmed by talented, creative chefs that just happen to be interesting people as well. We don’t always get to meet those folks when we visit their restaurants. Unless they’ve got a second to come out and say hi, the menu is as far as interaction with the chefs usually goes. We’d like to take you behind those kitchen doors and talk food with the people that food for a living.

Our first episode features chef Thomas Heinrich of Mosaic Bar & Grille at the Hyatt Regency Vancouver, who just returned from a culinary tour of Taiwan, posts photos of his creations on Twitter and attempts to pronounce “Pemberton” while Australian.

You can check out the trailer above and expect the full episode in early March, after which you’ll be able to order chef Heinrich’s braised short rib with buckwheat “risotto”, crispy onions and parsnip puree.
