Soaring through Whistler Mountain

There is something to be said for adrenaline beasts. They search high and low, travel near or far, all in pursuit of that adrenaline hit. Often times, they’ll find themselves at our very own Whistler Mountain where there are opportunities at the turn of every corner to indulge in a thrill or two.

The latest addition to a thrill seeker’s to-do list? Superfly Ziplines. Zipliners will find themselves soaring 600 feet above the forest floor, at speeds up to 100 kilometres an hour, for more than a kilometre. In short, you’ll be flying really fast, high above the ground for a long distance, in the pitch dark should you choose the night time option. Do we have your attention now?

For those who are getting sweaty palms already, not to worry as the tour builds up momentum to this point starting off on a rather relaxing note. The first portion of the tour starts off with a ride in a heated snowcat that takes guests up Rainbow Mountain where a charming private yurt is waiting.

Inside, you’ll find chefs from Bearfoot Bistro prepping dinner on a beautiful wood-burning stove. The chefs work quickly to prepare a tasty 3-course meal that serves up comfort food in a big way. Think: Classic French Alsatian Onion Tart, Slow Braised Angus Beef and Warm Date Pudding with Maple Butterscotch. Just as you eat up the last morsel of your dessert, you’ll need to make a mental shift and get ready for a walk on the wild side – literally.

Guests then get suited up in full ski and safety gear and make their way to the first of four ziplines. From there on, you’ll be treated to a pretty exhilarating flight between two separate snow-covered mountains via four lines. Since the lines are tandem, you’ll literally find yourself flying through the night with nothing but your partner beside you and the stars above you. Exhilarating, definitely worthwhile, and adrenaline-junkie approved.

Post-zipline, you might be in need of some R&R. If you’re looking to level yourself out at a slower pace, we’d suggest:

Good night sleep at the Fairmont Chateau Whistler. This 550-room chateau-styled hotel is nestled at the base of Blackcomb Mountain and literally steps away from the slopes.

Breakfast waffles at the Wildflower. Life is too short not to splurge on the most important meal of the day.

Soak in splendor at Scandinave Spa. Hot bath, cold bath, relax in silence, repeat. Don’t forget the Norwegian steam baths, Finnish sauna, and refresh stations too.
