Canada’s first web festival will celebrate their inaugural event from May 2 to May 4. The Vancouver Web Fest (VWF) celebrates the progressive evolution of entertainment and programming created exclusively for the Internet. This uniquely diverse festival is the first of its kind in Canada. VWF will bring together International and Canadian web series creators, producers and viewers through an engaged and responsive forum that acknowledges the cultural significance of this revolutionary genre.
The Vancouver Web Fest will create an experience that brings people together to discover extraordinary web series and content from around the world. VWF will form a welcoming environment that encourages an exploration into new formats of storytelling and act as a forerunner in the Web series industry. The Vancouver Web Fest has partnered with Marseille Web Fest, Melbourne Web Fest, Hollyweb and Roma Web Fest.
VWF founder Suzette Laqua has gathered some of the top local professionals in the entertainment industry as part of their judge’s panel. To date, the judges panel includes:
- Walter Daroshin (Troika Pictures, Leo Awards)
- Paul Armstrong (Crazy 8s, Celluloid Social Club, etc.)
- Marina Darling (actress and philanthropist)
In addition to the growing number of judges, Laque has gathered Dailymotion as a sponsor. Dailymotion is “one of the leading sites” for sharing videos; the website has more than 112-million unique monthly visitors, and 2.5-billion videos are viewed around the world. The three-day Vancouver Web Fest will include:
- A pre-launch party
- Screenings of many Web series
- Pitch Sessions
- Facilitate panels featuring industry professionals
The Vancouver Web Fest is accepting late submissions until January 15, 2014.
