Homeless will continue to get free transit rides When Compass Card launches

Homeless advocates were worried that the introduction of the Compass Card system would mean no more free rides for the homeless in our region. Well, they don’t have to worry as a solution has been found.

A new single-ride ticket will replace the FareSaver. This is a product that essentially replicates the FareSavers and is compatible with the new Compass Card technology.

Social agencies will then be able to buy stacks and distribute them as needed. In essence, the social agencies can purchase the tickets and not have to deal with the re-loading a compass card every time an individual runs out.

TransLink is still looking into further solutions that will offer a more subsidized ride for the homeless.
