6.2 magnitude earthquake hits B.C. coast

The US Geological Survey is reporting a magnitude 6.2 earthquake has struck 178 kilometres southwest of Bella Bella, British Columbia.

The earthquake was detected at 1:19 p.m. PST earlier today on the ocean floor along the Pacific ring of fire, striking at a depth of 12 kilometres.

No damage has been reported nor has a tsunami warning been issued.

Today’s earthquake comes after Monday’s 3.9 magnitude earthquake 119 km southwest of Port Alice on Vancouver Island. Another magnitude 7.0 earthquake hit Alaska’s Aleutian Islands last week.
