The Vancouver Tweed Ride Committee along with presenting sponsor, Rio Tinto Alcan is proud to announce the first annual organized Vancouver Tweed Ride, the most fashionable cycling event to roll through Vancouver.
On September 15, hundreds of Vancouver cyclists will be dressed in their finest tweeds and turn of the century attire to parade around the boroughs of the downtown core. The ride begins at The Vancouver Club and includes stops at C Restaurant for high tea and refreshments and ends with a British style after-party courtesy of The Terminal City Club and The Lions Pub.
Tweed rides are a worldwide phenomenon started in London in the fall of 2009 as “Tweed Run London”. The popular event has been known to sell out in minutes with celebrity participants and hundreds of cyclists in attendance. Similarrides have taken place around the world including Toronto, New York and Sydney.
Riders are asked to recreate the spirit of a bygone era by dressing in tweed or other British cycling attire, and where possible bring classic vintage bicycles.
This is the first organized event with all registration proceeds going to Intersections Media Opportunities for Youth Society, a non-profit that offers a variety of film and skills development programs for at-risk youth in the lower mainland.
“The Vancouver Tweed Ride gives bike enthusiasts a chance to take part in an unique event that already happens around the world” says Daniel Patching, spokesperson for Vancouver Tweed Ride. “Not only will this event be something unique for Vancouver, but will also help support Intersections Media.”
“We are extremely grateful to be the non-profit of choice for the first annual organized Tweed Ride” says Christopher Hindle, a Director of Intersections Media Opportunities for Youth Society. “The proceeds from the ride will ensure that Intersections can continue to provide valuable programs for at-risk youth in the lower mainland.”
Prizes will be awarded for best-dressed tweed, best group and best bike.
The registration fee for the event is $40 and includes the ride, a swag bag, high tea, and entrance into the after party. Additional sponsors include The Still Brand Works, Sysco, JJ Bean, Pabst Blue Ribbon, Vancouver Magazine, C Restaurant, Pedersen’s, Reckless Bikes, Murchie’s Fine Tea, Brooklyn Bicycle Co., Impark and Big Coast Brands.
