Has fall arrived early? Bring an umbrella out today, Environment Canada declared a Heavy Rainfall Warning for Metro Vancouver.

Drivers are advised to be extra cautious and mountain hikers should also temporarily refrain from outdoor activities given the dry ground’s inability to absorb water quickly.

HEAVY RAINFALL WARNING ISSUED FOR METRO VANCOUVER – 29 AUG. 2013

Heavy rain will be developing later this morning. This is a warning that significant rainfall is expected or occurring in these regions.

A moist front moving towards Vancouver Island today will result in rain at times heavy across much of the South Coast. Rain will intensify again later this morning and then begin easing from the west over Vancouver Island this evening.

Amounts generally will range from 30 to 50 mm; however, in areas near the Vancouver region’s North Shore, southern sections of the Sunshine Coast and Howe Sound, upslope flow will give amounts of 50 to 70 mm through early Friday.

Additionally, isolated thunderstorms will contribute to the rainfall amounts.
