Grouse Grind

For many, doing the Grouse Grind just once in a day is enough. For Grind For Kids Ambassador Oliver Bibby, that’s nothing. Yesterday, he set a new record with 16 Grouse Grinds in a single day!

Oliver Bibby, the new most-hiked-in-a-day record holder, is just 18 years old and is a recent high school graduate. This incredible accomplishment was even more special because all 16 climbs counted towards fundraising efforts for the BC Children’s Hospital Foundation.

The previous all-time Grouse Grind record was 15 climbs, with Colin Pither (age 24 and a former “sick” kid) tying the record on August 1, 2013. Click here to see who is raising a mountain of money, including Bibby for BC’s sick kids. To date, Bibby has raised over $3,000 for the charity.

The Grouse Grind is not for the faint of heart, it is for those who are fit and to finish it in a timely manner requires the utmost of physical and mental endurance. The vertical hike (a.k.a. mother’s nature’s stairmaster) is 2.9 kilometres long and has an elevation gain of 853-metres. For the average Grinder, it takes an average of 90 minutes to complete the hike (all-time record set by Sebastian Salas at 23 minutes 48 secs).
