The Donnelly Group and Granville Island Brewery are proud to announce their first ever collaboration ale: “Big Hoppa” White IPA. Straight from the pages of Granville Island Brewmaster Vern Lambourne’s Little Black book comes the first ever white IPA to be brewed in the Granville Island tap house. A collaboration that began over an afternoon conversation and tasting of Ginga Ninja turned into an early morning brew day less than three weeks later. Donnelly Group Development Chef Alvin Pillay and Bar & Beverage Director Trevor Kallies were on site to mill, grain, and mash wort for the much anticipated new beer.
Vern looked to Magnum hops for bittering, New Zealand Motueka & Ahtanum for late kettle aroma and finally dry hopped the ale with a blend of Cascade and Chinook. In true Wit fashion, the beer is spiced with coriander and Curacao orange peel. The “Big Hoppa” White IPA pours at an ABV of 7.2% with an approachable 60 IBU for drinkability.
The “Big Hoppa” is a small batch brew with very limited availability and will be poured in every Donnelly Group location that serves draught beer from July 2 while quantities last. The Batch was kicked off July 2 at the newly renovated Three Brits Public House (formerly The Calling) with a cask conditioned “Big Hoppa” tapped by none other than Vern himself.
