A Day At The Races; Where To Get Your Hat for The Deighton Cup

Deighton Cup

The social event of the summer is happening on August 9 to 11, 2013 – The Deighton Cup. The women of Vancouver are topping off their outfits with the perfect accessory – a hat fit for a day at the races.

As soon as the Deighton Cup began promoting their three-day event fit for royalty, I visualized myself as Audrey Hepburn circa ‘My Fair Lady’. (In a hat that required me to walk with a cane to stand up right – wasn’t she classic?)

I began looking for the best places to buy a hat, but after hours of searching, I found I was putting more effort into finding a hat than I did for a final at UBC. To save you all the trouble I went through, I created the following list of must-have hat shops in Vancouver. The list includes websites, contact info, hours of operation, and pricing for every budget ($-$$$).

You will see the term ‘milliner’ used a lot in the ‘hat world.’ In case you don’t know what that means, here’s the definition:

Although Vancouverites don’t have many opportunities to dress up in our laid back west-coast city, The Deighton Cup is the perfect excuse to look like royalty.

TIP: When you go shopping, bring the outfit you plan to wear – it’ll help you select the best colour, detail and size of your hat or headpiece!
