TV production gears up in Vancouver this summer

After a two month break, TV season is back in action, transforming Vancouver streets into Storybrooke, Starling City and even Wonderland.

Starting production in the upcoming weeks are:

Season 3 of ABC’s Once Upon a Time. The series is set in the fictional town of  Storybrooke, Maine and often films in Steveston, BC. It stars a large cast including Ginnifer Goodwin, Josh Dallas and Jennifer Morrison. Production begins July 12th.

The CW’s breakout hit Arrow starts filming its second season on July 10th. Canadian heartthrob Stephen Amell is back to take down the bad guys of Starling City. Other cast in the show are local girl Emily Bett Rickards, John Barrowman and Manu Bennett.

Three new series are filming their first seasons in July – the first being a remake of the hit UK show The Tomorrow People – starring Stephen Amell’s cousin Robbie Amell. The CW has aptly labelled Wednesdays (the day Arrow and Tomorrow people will air) as Amell Wednesday. Tomorrow People will begin production on July 12th.

Another new production is a Once Upon A Time spinoff of Alice in Wonderland, aptly named: Once Upon a Time in Wonderland. Filming is expected to take place mostly on the green screens of the North Shore studio and the forests of North Vancouver. John Lithgow will be providing the voice of the White Rabbit, and newcomers Sophie Lowe, Emma Rigby and Michael Socha round out the cast.

Ladies keep your eyes peeled for Channing Tatum the next few months. His wife Jenna Dewan-Tatum is starring in new series The Witches East End which begins production in Vancouver July 16th. The Lifetime series is based on the hit novel of the same name by Melissa de la Cruz.

A&E’s creepy thriller Bates Motel is back in Vancouver for its’ second season July 24th. The show starring Freddie Highmore as Norman Bates films in a recreated Motel set in Aldergrove. If you’re in the area of 272nd Avenue close to the US border, you can get a view of the iconic motel.

And last but not least, one of the longest-running shows filming in Vancouver, CW’s hit series Supernatural, which starts filming July 11th.
