Vancouver Cheap Eats: Kits Beach

Comments
Chewies

Is there anything better than spending your days at Kits Beach? Yes, actually. Eating while spending your days at Kits Beach.

Well-known for being the most laid-back area of Vancouver, you know you’re in Kitsilano when you’re surrounded by stretchy pants, shirts without sleeves, and road bikers zooming by you (also in stretchy pants). With the sudden surge of beautiful weather, Vancity Buzz and Chowmenow took a tour of Kits Beach to find food for under five dollars. So grab your fork and your Ray Bans, let’s roll out!

Cafe Zen

If there’s one area of the city that’s all about brunch, it’s Kitsilano. Whether having just finished a half marathon or last night’s drinking marathon, brunch is a weekend staple. It’s a social event. So when you’re craving something to break the fast, you can score fried or scrambled eggs with toast and hashbrowns for $4.99 at Café Zen.

Local Public Eatery

Local

If you’re itching for a midnight snack, the late night menu at Local offers appetizers at discounted prices. Available after 10pm during the week and 11pm on weekends, chow on gyoza, spicy edamame, poutine, or chips and salsa all for 5 bucks and under.

Chewies Steam and Oyster Bar

All day, every day, beach oysters are $1.50. Not an oyster fan? There are plenty of greasy, cheesy, and don’t-be-seen-in-your-bathing-suit-after-eating-these sides to choose from, like the buttermilk biscuits, fried okra, Cajun fries, coleslaw, and Parmesan cheese grits all for $5 and under.

Vera’s Burger Shack

Take this dog and head to the beach, no leash required (just ketchup). Vera’s dogs are $4.99.

The Burrito Brothers

Thursday is Locals Night, meaning there’s a sea of yoga-pants and flip-flops all lining up for the same $2.50 beef tacos and $3 Sol’s. If you happen to walk by on other days of the week, you can choose from a basket of taters for $4.50, rice and beans for $3.50, tacos for $2.88, or chips and salsa for $3.99.
