Funk ‘n Sole Entertainment, a Vancouver-based event production company, is putting on the Canadian Hip Hop Championships 2013 Western Region preliminaries this Friday, April 12, at the Michael J. Fox Theatre in Burnaby. Two hundred participants will be competing in front of over 500 spectators to earn a spot at the international competition.

The Canadian Hip Hop Championships is an annual event that has been taking place since 2009.

This year, a total of 200 participants in 21 dance crews will be competing for their chance to be named Western Canada’s best dance crew and represent Canada on the international stage at the World Hip Hop Dance Championships 2013 in Las Vegas.

There will be four dance crew categories: Junior (ages 7 to 12), Varsity (ages 13-18), Adult (ages 18 and above) and Mega Crew (groups with a minimum of 15 dancers).

Co-hosting the event are local actor/comedians Kayln Miles from OLN’s Get Stuffed! and Ed Witzke from Family Channel’s What’s up Warthogs. Other dance industry celebrities that will be in attendance are Steve Bolton, choreographer of Blueprint Cru (America’s Best Dance Crew), and Cezar Tantoco, choreographer of Freshh (Canada’s Got Talent).

The event is open to everyone and tickets can be purchased at www.funknsoleentertainment.com.
