Wine Wednesday: Blasted Church Sauvignon Blanc

One of the things I love the most about Blasted Church is their fun labels – like this one above. They are playful, eye-catching and tell the story of the Blasted Church Winery. When they asked me to review some of their wines, including the Sauvignon Blanc, I was really excited! Not only do I love B.C. wines, but I love affordable B.C. wines. This wine sells at below $20 in most liquor stores.

Food pairings

Sauvignon Blanc can pair with a variety of foods. I would tend to pair this wine with lighter food such as an arugula salad with lemon vinaigrette, or a light fish on a bed of greens. Another idea would be to serve it with light pasta full of fresh flavour such as parsley, garlic, olive oil, and sea salt. It is an easy wine to pair and you really can’t go wrong, except with red meat! An especially great pairing would be scallops with beurre blanc sauce.

Flavour profile

A little bit more full bodied than many traditional Sauvignon Blanc’s, this white is fresh with mineral flavours, ripe with fruit and smells like fresh stone fruit on the trees in the Okanagan. Like many Sauvignon Blanc’s, this wine has a somewhat vegetal taste, with green asparagus peaking through on the tongue. Very light in colour, there are melon and lemon flavours as well.
